The Tel Aviv suburb of Givatayim has traditionally been a Labor stronghold par excellence. Polls that suggest Labor under its current chairman Amir 'Anusclown' Peretz won't do well at all there have led bird-brained journos to accuse the residents of 'racism'. Veteran commentator Sever Plotzker in Yediot Achronot has a different explanation: Givatayim's current demographic is among the richest in Israel, and residents are simply... voting their pocketbooks ("stemmen met hun portefeuille") for more pro-market parties. Plotzker suggests that Labor seek to expand in economically depressed towns like Ramle, and let its historical strongholds for what they are --- remnants of a former era.
